Historical Fiction
Apollo, in Greek mythology, is shot by a golden arrow, causing him to fall madly for Daphne. Tragically, Daphne is struck with a lead arrow, preventing her from loving Apollo. Apollo can’t help pursuing Daphne, while Daphne can’t help resisting him. Daphne’s father ends the chase by turning Daphne into a laurel tree.
This novel starts with Daphne’s father liberating Daphne from her confinement. She transforms into Perseus, a student at an elite school in Macedonia. Unbeknownst to Daphne, Apollo discovers her plans, and also takes the form of a student.
Apollo’s assumed identity is a mystery, not even the gods know. Apollo, under the guise of his new persona, exudes qualities that might entice Daphne, but alas, she cannot love him, she is still cursed by that lead arrow. Or is she?
Although Secaucus's people were decimated in a fire during the Pequot War, he still describes himself as the son of a sachem. Captured by the Narragansett, he has no status and can’t rise to prominence. Instead he joins the Puritans and dreams of becoming a sea captain on one of their glorious ships. While he builds his life, tensions continue to escalate between the Puritans and the Narragansett. To push back the Puritans, the Narragansett burn the city of Providence, Secaucus’s adopted hometown. Suspended between two worlds, Secaucus needs to resolve who he can be.
